This recipe, another one adapted from Sweet Paul Eat & Make, makes the most moist, chewy-ooey-gooey, delicious sandwiches!
Turkey, spinach, and Gruyere for me…
…and a traditional Croque Monsieur for the hub 🙂
Ingredients: makes 2 sandwiches
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk, warmed
- Salt and pepper
- 4 slices challah bread
- 2-4 slices turkey
- 2-4 slices ham
- Spinach
- 1 cup grated Gruyere
- Preheat oven to 400.
- Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium high heat. Stir in flour, and continue to stir for about one minute.
- Stir in milk 1/4 cup at a time, and season with salt and pepper.
- Dip 2 pieces of bread into the milk mixture, turn to coat (do not saturate), and allow excess sauce to drip off.
- Place the bread on a parchment lined baking sheet, and top with turkey/ham/spinach and 1/2 the cheese.
- Coat the remaining bread slices in sauce, and place on top of sandwiches.
- Sprinkle with remaining cheese.
- Bake for about 15 minutes, and serve hot.
Enjoy 🙂
