Reader Request: Joy and Sunshine Favorites

Navy Schoolboy Blazer + Tee + Distressed Khaki Mini + Loafers

Lovely Lady Writer Ele (I “borrowed” that phrase from her… not sure if I’m giving it back, though, because I quite like it :-)) of the wonderful blog Inspirationele was nominated for a Liebster Blog Award — congrats and YAY! Instead of in turn posing the usual questions to her blog nominees, Ms. Ele requested a list of the following faves: item of clothing still available for purchase; online-only store; beauty product; favorite other product; book; magazine; movie; recipe; restaurant; city and things to do in that city; and blog. How fun! I’m especially thankful for this request because not only does it bring to mind some things I really enjoy, but it’s the perfect first post after my little blogging hiatus. Thanks, Ele, and here you go…

Navy Schoolboy Blazer

  • Item of Clothing Still Available for Purchase: I adore my navy schoolboy blazer because it’s utterly classic and preppy. (I scored the black one earlier this year for a fraction of the current price. Not sure why it was on sale, but I sure am thankful that it was, as I am severely opposed to paying full price.) This new herringbone blazer is high on my wish list.
  • Online-only store: You know what? I don’t have a favorite online-only store. I use the web as a precursor to going to the store; I like to feel, try on, and fully check out the item before I buy it. I also love brick & mortar shopping as a pastime, so the computer just doesn’t do it for me.

Natural Oils as Beauty Products

  • Beauty Product: Truth be told, my favorite beauty product is probably Visene. One of my vices is staying up (really) late and getting up early, and I can’t walk around looking like I’m about to zap someone with my red eyes, lol! My other favorite beauty products are natural oils: they’re so versatile!
  • Here are 6 ways I use extra virgin olive oil as a beauty product.
  • Here is how I typically use coconut oil. I’ve also started using it as a nighttime facial moisturizer.
  • I use avocado oil in place of coconut oil when I don’t feel like smelling tropical (i.e. want a neutral scent that won’t compete with anything else I’m wearing).
  • Mixing a few drops of pure argan oil with my moisturizer really helps my dry, sensitive skin and gives me a glowy look.

Prenatal One Multivitamin

Disclaimer: I am not pregnant! My friends IRL know I don’t ever joke about that, lol.

  • Favorite Other Product: I am prone to anemia, but it’s been difficult to find an iron-containing multivitamin that doesn’t also contain an ingredient to which I’m allergic. I was so thrilled to find a vitamin I could take that I didn’t realize it had zero iron until my low iron levels had done a real number on my hair. Plus, I was craving ice like a fiend. These Rainbow Light multivitamins don’t upset my stomach (I take them after breakfast), and I like both the ingredients and the concentrations of those ingredients. I’ve been taking them for about a year, and after a dreaded 4-5 inch haircut to get rid of thinning ends last year, my hair is healthy, retaining length, and is as full and long as it’s ever been.

5 Favorite Fiction and Nonfiction Books

Domino Magazine

  • Magazines: I’m in an interior decor phase, so right now my favorite magazines are Domino (so happy it was revived, even if it’s now a seasonal rather than monthly publication), Canadian House & Home, and Living Etc.(UK).
  • Movie: Pretty Woman! I know all the words and songs. “Wild women do, and they don’t regret it…”

Recipe: Chocolate Pots de Creme with Whipped Cream and Strawberries 8

  • Recipe: Chocolate Pots de Creme! It’s decadent, yet very simple to make, and it turns any meal into a special event.
  • Restaurant: Canoe consistently has been my favorite Atlanta restaurant for years and years and years. I also love, love the fairly new restaurant St. Cecilia.

View from the Top of the Rock

  • Cities: I’ve only been to Paris once, but it was immediately one of my favorite cites. My favorite things were the Musee de l’Orangerie, Sainte-Chapelle (the stained glass windows are stunning and give the effect of feeling like you’re inside a jewelry box), Laduree, and just walking around enjoying the city. My other favorite city is New York, with my favorite things there being the Guggenheim, the Frick, and again, Laduree, and just walking around enjoying the city.
  • Blogs: Now this is a toughie. There are so many great blogs and bloggers out there that it’s difficult to narrow them down to a postable list, and I would really hate to leave anyone off. Suffice it to say that I really enjoy YOUR blog. In fact, your “Our History Month” post highlighting the works of Gordon Parks is still one of my all time favorite posts from any source.

Thanks again for the request!

Hey, V! Thanks for stopping by! I’m so on board with your faves: All-Stars, Madewell, MSL mag, and Serpas (love their flash fried oysters and, of course, beignets)… Question: How exactly do you use your JBCO (i.e. scalp, hair, warmed, pre-poo or leave in)? Thanks for stopping by and sharing!

  2. Hey! I’m so glad you got around to writing this post, so many good ideas and suggestions in one place–I love it! I definitely need to add those restaurants and books (among other things) to my list of things to try! New York is another fave of mine that holds a special place in my heart, but you know what? I’ve never been to the Guggenheim. I need to mix that into my rotation of places to visit. I also really like your chocolate creme recipe post. I remember wanting to try it immediately but not having the ingredients nor the ramekins. Now I have ramekins, and I think I need to give it a try. It would be great for the holidays. It looks so fancy, yet you make it seem simple to make.

Thank you for the post suggestion, Ele! It was really fun answering those questions.

Please try making pots de creme: The recipe is honestly really very simple, and you can add subtle flavor by changing the type of chocolate you use. I made a batch with espresso flavored chocolate bars, and it was my favorite to date. Let me know how it goes 🙂
