I call this my Band Jacket. Not hip Rock Band Jacket, but more like Marching Band Jacket. It was a steal at under $30 (down from nearly $200 like this year’s version), and since I have a very real thing for blazers and jackets, I knew it was going to be mine on sight.
I wore this on a shopping trip with a good friend, and our favorite J Crew salesman, who happened to be grabbing a coffee while we were stocking up on madeleines, said, “I love the military look!” I mentally slapped myself on the forehead, d’oh fashion. Military! That sounds so much cooler than band jacket.
Another other funny thing that happened on this outing:
As I was contemplating trying on this cute railroad stripe skirt, I realized that their “mini” was literally twice as long as the mini I was wearing! (It didn’t bother me, of course, but it was funny. Semantics.) My friend gave me a knowing side eye when I showed her the tomato-tomahto minis 🙂
- Military/Band Jacket: Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren (newer version)
- Turtleneck sweater: J Crew
- Distressed Khaki Mini: Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren (styled differently here and very similarly here)
- Ribbed Tights: Gap (also worn in this post)
- Boots: Ecco
- Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
Love the band jacket! I scored one on a thrift store shopping trip awhile back and it’s one of my favorite pieces!
Thank you! If you don’t mind sharing, how do you style yours?

Cool look! I would have never thought to dress down a jacket like that with a frayed skirt, it looks great!

Thank you, Ashleigh! When in doubt, I usually go for a casual/not-so-casual mix.
