Little Luxuries: Perfume! On a Tray!

To me, Little Luxuries are those small things that don’t cost a fortune – or anything! – but that never fail to bring a bit more shiny, happy Joy and Sunshine to my day 🙂

Before I can tell you the story about this beautiful silver tray with gorgeous tortoise handles, I have to tell you the story about the two practically empty bottles of perfume pictured below.

Discontinued! Waaaaaa!

One of my special gifts is falling in love with fragrances that, unbeknownst to me (100 points for using the word “unbeknownst” in a casual blog post :-)), are very shortly about to be discontinued forever and ever. This is especially unfortunate because I rarely find perfumes that I actually like, let alone love, as I do these two*.

Ok, back to the first pic:

After smelling, frowning, developing a headache, and running away from countless perfume counters, I decided I was just going to go to Sephora and not leave without finding something I like. I resigned myself to a headache, and walked in, determined. Well, lo and behold (Can I get another 100 points? No?): I met the super-nice, talented, I-don’t-know-HOW-he-got-so-great-at-this, wonderful GEORGE, the Fragrance Expert at Sephora in Lenox Square. He asked me some questions to get a very specific idea of what I wanted in a perfume and patiently brought me a tightly edited selection fragrances to smell. (He shared the tip of using a clean cotton ball rather than a container of coffee beans as a cleanser between fragrances.) I was shocked to find not one, but three scents that I really liked, one of which I loved! When I said, “WOW, you are good at this,” George said with a smile and a shrug, “It’s kind of what I do.” Indeed 🙂

I knew I wanted to display my perfumes on some type of tray**, and I stalked this one at Macy’s until it was down to a price that I was not only willing, but happy to pay. Too bad they only had one, or I’d have all kinds of things on trays up in here.

* My all-time favorite is the one on the right, Feu d’Orange by L’Occitane. It’s been off the shelves for years, but I’m telling you: If I ever become a kabazillionaire, tasking someone to recreate that perfume will be on my must-do list. Dang it.
