Closet Organization: Hangers

Closet Organization: Slim Hangers

Although I love, love the look, functionality, and boutique-y-shop-my-closet-ness of wooden hangers, I’ve recently had to place my gazillion Ikea ones into temporary retirement (i.e. a storage bin). Sadly, they just take up too much space in a closet the size of the one I share – equitably, I might add – with the hubby. (For some odd reason, he hasn’t volunteered to move his things into the guest room closet… oh, wait… the guest room closet is full of my stuff, too.)

ANYway. These slimline hangers* might not be the cutest – ok, they’re definitely not the cutest, IMHO – but they really have freed up a ton of hanging space in the closet. I was so happy I went on a clothes-hanging spree: now even my tank tops are chillin’ on hangers!**

* The reviews of these hangers were a little sketchy, so I kept my receipt just in case a return was in order. They are very thin, so I don’t use the built-in hook or twist the metal hanger head. Also, I picked up some of the heavyweight slimline hangers for my blazers, as I don’t think the regular ones would hold up well under the weight of jackets. If money were no object, I probably would have chosen to fill the closet solely with the heavyweight ones.

** Seeing all the extra space created by switching hangers made me realize how much I dislike folding – and refolding and refolding – tops. Plus, I like the fact that even the most lightweight tops don’t slip off these hangers.

  1. I transitioned my wooden hangers to the slimline ones too awhile back. My closet is the size of my left and right feet so I had to do something. Definitely prefer hanging. And not all slimlines are created equal. I learned the hard way not to twist the hanger head on one brand I got (from Marshall’s). LOL. I’m in need of more so I may be making a trip to BBB when I get another 20% off coupon.

LOL at “left and right feet”! You can get on BBB’s mailing list, and they’ll send you coupons periodically. Plus, they publish 20% off coupons in lots of magazines. The fact that they never expire is golden to me 🙂

As long as it’s working for you! If you decide the get new hangers, check these out in store to see if they’ll work for you. Ikea wooden hangers are a good value for the quality if you have space for them.

  3. I use these same hangers and I have been for a while. I purchased mine at Ross.

Thanks for the tip, Ariel! I’ve seen similar slim hangers at TJMaxx, Marshall’s, Nordstrom Rack, etc. The quality varies a lot, too.

  4. These hangers are the best. It has taken a while for me to change out my hangers, but I am getting there! I justify the non-cute factor of the hangers by enjoying the fact that these they make room for more things! 🙂

Good point! I love wood hangers, but I love shopping and adding new things to my wardrobe even more 🙂
