Buttermilk Kitchen, one of my favorite local breakfast spots (Alon’s is the other one :-)), offered bacon, arugula, heirloom tomato, and house-made cheese sandwiches as a special recently. They were SO good that I had to try my hand at making them at home. I did not have any house-made cheese – fresh out, lol – so I used goat cheese instead.
Simply layer goat cheese, arugula, tomatoes, salt/pepper, cooked bacon slices, and more goat cheese on honey whole wheat bread, and toast/grill the sandwich in a pan with melted butter.
Very ripe, flavorful tomatoes make all the difference in this sandwich, IMHO. I always shied away from purchasing heirloom tomatoes because they were usually $5-7/lb, though. They must’ve stayed on hub’s radar after the Buttermilk sandwiches because he came home from the grocery store with a bag of heirloom tomatoes and big smile one day, saying, “They were on sale!” A destiny intervention for these sandwiches 🙂
This particular sandwich was made with turkey bacon on Ezekiel 7 Sprouted Grains bread.
