Current Faves: Nail Polish Picks

OPI Nail Polish

Nail polish – both color and brand – is a very personal thing: What one woman swears lasts for two weeks on her nails, refuses to last even 24 hours on another’s. Unfortunately, my nails typically fall into the “another’s” category because polishes tend to go all chip city on me in no time. A little while back, a friend suggested that I revisit OPI polishes, and I’m happy to report that I’ve been getting great wear from them, especially the lighter colors. Yay!

Here are my current faves*(left to right):

  • Lincoln Park After Dark: Classic vampy deep, dark purple
  • Malaga Wine: (you guessed it!) A burgundy wine color
  • Big Apple Red: Classic candy apple red (Allure magazine award-winner)
  • Dutch Tulips: Bright, but not too bright, reddish-pink
  • Tickle My France-y: Nude with just a hint of lilac

*I still haven’t tried my ChanelĀ “Black Satin” nail polish! I’ll let you know how it goes when I do.

UPDATE: The depth of color of Chanel lacquers is unbelievable! Application is a dream, the brush is just about perfect, and the bottles look so decadent lined up on a silver tray. I’ve already picked up a few more shades, both for myself and as gifts. Definitely a Little Luxury šŸ™‚

Seche Vite Top Coat

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat has been an InStyle MagazineĀ Best Beauty BuyĀ darling for years, and for me, it definitely lives up to the hype. I usually go for 3-free (i.e. containing no formaldehyde, dibutylphthalate (DBP), or toluene) nail products, but I made an exception for this product, which is 2-free.

I remember complimenting a salesperson’s nails, and she said, “Oh, I buy 99 cent polishes, but it’s my top coat that makes them look so great.” Guess which top coat she was talking about šŸ™‚

NOTE:Ā While Seche Vite is still the best top coat ever IMHO, it becomes so sticky at the halfway point – I guess because some of the solvents have evaporated – that the rest of the bottle is basically unusable. Stock up, lol!

Nail polish, both boldly colored and understated neutrals, is one of my One Hundred.Ā Click hereĀ to see the rest!
