While I admired this Tracy Reese top from the time the Neiman Marcus for Target collection first hit stores, I didn’t actually buy it until it was 70% off. (Score!) Sequins and sparkly pieces like this one are no-brainers for nighttime wear, but for daytime? That can be a challenge
My go-to for dressing anything down: slightly slouchy distressed denim in a light wash. Actually, almost any combination of “slouchy,” “distressed,”and “light wash” works as an easy way to make a look instantly more casual. An untucked button down doesn’t hurt either.
Side Note: Either these jeans used to be more relaxed in the fit department and I shrunk them, or something non-jean related is going on because I distinctly remember them being slouchier. Doggone you, rocky road ice cream, for being so delicious and irresistible. Doggone you too, gym, for being so very and utterly resistible.

This denim vest is one of the most versatile pieces in my closet. It can be thrown on over just about anything and definitely tones down bright, shiny, sparkle all up and through this shirt.

For my third “sequins for daytime” look, I’m linking up with Eboni of The Fashionista Next Door to put together an outfit inspired by Jenna Lyons’ cool, laid back tee + sequin pant ensemble pictured above. I do not have sequin pants (or shorts…or capris…or a skirt…) so I had to get creative with the one sparkly item I own.
I added a similar gray striped tee underneath the sequin top and played off the whole preppy chic vibe for the rest of the look. Not identical, but inspired Check out Style Me Friday on the Fashionista Next Door to see how Eboni and other fab bloggers interpreted the inspiration pic.
